The Midlands

 

 

 

 


Toome Bridge was the place in the Ballymahon's section of the Royal Canal where passengers alighted to connect with Bianconi cars to Athlone. The Royal Canal, the most frequent route to Dublin in the first half of the nineteenth century, declined when the railway arrived to the Midlands in the early 1850s.
