| Según
una versión, que avala una ballesta encontrada a orillas del
Río Salado, Juan de Garay fue el primer hombre blanco que
vio esta región en 1596. Por la hostilidad indígena, en 1752
el gobierno bonaerense instaló tres fortines para la defensa
contra el indio. En 1778 uno de los fuertes –llamado "Fortín
del Zanjón"- y el caserío se trasladaron a los márgenes
de la laguna de Chascomús. El poblado recibió el nombre de
San Juan Bautista de Chascomús. [2] |
